Are You Crushing Your Competition?
“Creating The Right Culture”
How do you crush your competition with your culture??? Actually, that is not the right question to ask. Some better questions to ask, that will result in you crushing your competition are:
It has been said that happy employees get and keep happy customers. So how do you do that? How do you create a business culture that is full of happiness? The best way to coach you through this is to have you think about your five senses – Hearing, Seeing, Smelling, Tasting and Touching. If you apply those five to your business culture I promise you will begin to crush your competition.
Hearing – Employees need to know they are being listened to. Business leaders should take steps to create spaces/methods where employees can easily communicate and share ideas. Casual conversations in the break room can become collaborative, million dollar conversations.
Seeing – Money and promotions are important, but what employees want to see is the big picture and their part in it. They want to know they are making a difference. A recent survey found that the No. 1 contributor to employee happiness is transparency – they employee wants to know his/her specific role in the company and how he/she can add to its success.
Smelling – Speaking of success, it has a distinct smell. I know this sounds odd, but when you walk through the door of a successful business you can smell it. It is hard to explain. Perhaps successful companies hire a cleaning service to keep that fragrance alive all day long.
Tasting – There is nothing better to create the culture you dream of than by recognizing and rewarding employees for a job well done – and having food at these events makes them that much more enjoyable. Achievement and recognition are high motivators for employees. If they take risks, reward them – and do it often. One great way to do this is to give them a coupon to go out for dinner. It also shows that you care about them when you create a culture of healthiness. Have fruit, bottles of water, and other healthy snacks in the break room.
Touching – Keep in touch with all of your staff. A one-on-one conversation with an employee or group lunch goes a long way. Whether it be a private conversation at the start of the day, taking them out for a meal, whatever, helps keep that bond strong. Take time to send a card or email of praise for a specific job well done.
So there you have it… Crush your competition by creating a culture of five senses. A culture that is guaranteed to be full of happy and productive employees.
